Last night Cocoro was presented with a local architecture award in the Interior Architecture Category at the 2011 NZIA Auckland Architecture Awards, held at the Auckland Art Gallery. Gary Lawson, jury convener of the Institute of Architects' Auckland regional awards, said that a record number of entries were submitted. Gascoigne Associates took away some prestigious Gold Awards at the 2011 Best Design Awards Ceremony held at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland last Friday night. Glassons Flagship Store Newmarket and Telecom New Concept Store Victoria Street both won Gold in the retail environment category while Cocoro restaurant won Gold in the hospitality group. Cocoro, the 'little sister' of well-known Japanese hotspot Soto has opened in Ponsonby and has already received excellent feedback. The restaurant can be classed as modern Japanese and offers a degustation style menu including Japanese tapas. Telecom's new superstore that opened a couple of weeks ago beneath the recently developed headquarters in the Victoria Quarter of Auckland is a creative space where customers can interact with products like never before. Gascoigne Associates is very pleased to have received the New Zealand Institute of Architects' Auckland Heritage Award and has been recognized at the 2010 RED Awards for the design of the Hotel DeBrett Atrium. In collaboration with fellow architects Mitchinson Simiona, Mark Gascoigne and his team hollowed out the middle of the building and added a glass roof, with a final result that gives the illusion that the atrium has been there all along. The recently opened Glassons flagship store in Auckland's Newmarket was the scene of a Harajuku inspired photo shoot for Episode 12 of the latest New Zealand's Next Top Model show. The store, designed by Gascoigne Associates made for some beautiful images thanks to an abundance of stunning colours and textures - not to mention gorgeous models.
